Joana Vogdt is a director and screenwriter for features, series & documentaries with a faible situation comedy, characters told with empathy and the magic that lies in the details.

​

Born in Frankfurt a.M. in the early eighties, Joana grew up in Mecklenburg and Hamburg. She lived and worked in different cities in Germany, Canada, France, UK, USA and Russia - collecting impressions and inspirations.

​

After studying at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg and La fémis, the Atelier Ludwigsburg Paris, she worked in various production companies in New York and Berlin, then as a freelance producer, script consultant and AD, among others for Wim Wenders.

 

Since 2010 Joana has been working as a director and writer. Initially, she shot primarily documentary and completed the Masterclass Non-Fiction at IFS Cologne. In 2018, she was a scholarship holder of the screenwriting program DrehbuchWerkstatt at HFF Munich. Her first fictional screenplay "Fließende Grenze", selected by European Script&Pitch, as well as her debut short film "Nachtbesuch" were screened at numerous festivals and won several awards.

 

Joana is currently developing the feature film "Ostufer Wildwest", funded by MV Filmförderung, and the feature film "Pink Elephant (WT)". She also writes on series and directs on assignment. She lives and works in Berlin and Mecklenburg.
